The Jack Russell was originally bred for fox hunting. Russell terriers were first bred by the Reverend John Russell, known as Parson Jack, a parson and hunting enthusiast, born in 1795. Whilst at university, he bought a white and tan terrier, called Trump, which he used to breed a type of terrier with stamina for a hunt as well as courage and formation to chase foxed that had gone to ground, but without any aggression that would harm the fox. The two Jack Russells on this horseshoe are Tom (left) and Ben (right), their names coming from my parents' grandchildren! They are devoted to my dad and go everywhere with him.
