Walking through our local woods gave me the inspiration to paint wild strawberries. They are a very delicate plant and it is easy to miss their fruit when ripe. If you have never tried a wild strawberry, then I recommend that you do. They are a small taste explosion! The wild strawberry is a member of the rose family. Because of their low-growing habit, it is not always easy to spot them. Hedgerows and dryish banks are good places to look. The flowers appear in spring and early summer, with the fruits ripening from July onwards. The leaves of the wild strawberry plant have been used as a herbal remedy to improve arthritis, stomach upsets, stimulate bile production, digestion and generally aid the digestive process. Its leaves are also highly recommended as a delicious and healthy tea substitute.
